A comprehensive blood panel after 30 should cover nine areas, not the three or four a routine physical runs: sex hormones, thyroid, metabolic markers, lipids, liver, kidney, a complete blood count, iron studies, and prostate screening for men. The point is not the number of tests. It is that energy, weight, mood and drive each have causes in several of those groups, and you can only tell them apart if they are drawn together.
Why the standard checkup is not enough
A routine annual panel is designed to catch disease: a blood count, a metabolic panel, cholesterol. It does that job well. It rarely includes sex hormones, the full thyroid picture, or iron stores, which are the markers behind the things people in their thirties and forties actually notice.
What a comprehensive panel covers
- Sex hormones: total and free testosterone, SHBG, estradiol, progesterone, DHEA-sulfate, LH and FSH.
- Thyroid: TSH, Free T4 and Free T3. TSH alone misses a lot.
- Metabolic: glucose and hemoglobin A1c, the three month average that catches drift early.
- Lipids: total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, VLDL and triglycerides.
- Liver and kidney: ALT, AST, creatinine, eGFR and the rest of the chemistry panel, which also decide what can be prescribed safely.
- Blood and iron: a complete blood count with differential, plus ferritin, serum iron and TIBC.
- Prostate: PSA for men, as a baseline.
Why the groups have to be drawn together
Low energy can be thyroid, iron, blood sugar or testosterone. Weight gain can be thyroid, insulin, sleep or hormones. Each group on its own gives you a maybe. Drawn together, on the same morning, they let a clinician say which one is actually responsible and which ones are fine.
Why interpretation matters as much as the draw
A reference range is a population average, and a result inside it is not automatically the right result for you. Results that land in a portal with green and red flags do not tell you what to do. The value of the panel is a clinician connecting your numbers to your history and your goals, and telling you plainly what comes next.
How Regener8 approaches it
The Regener8 panel is 50+ markers across those 9 categories, drawn in one visit at a LabCorp near you. A board certified clinician reviews every result with you on a 30 minute video visit, then you retest every six months so each panel is read against your own previous numbers.
