5 ways to raise your testosterone naturally

Most men can move their testosterone with five everyday habits: sleep seven or more hours, lose the belly fat, lift two to three times a week, take stress seriously, and test on a morning draw so the number is real. None of them needs a prescription. They are also what a clinician checks first, because short sleep, fat around the middle and months of stress can each pull a reading down on their own.

1. Sleep seven or more hours

Testosterone rises overnight, peaks in the early morning and falls through the day, so most of it is made while you sleep. In a JAMA study, healthy young men held to about five hours a night for one week had measurably lower testosterone, and lower energy and mood with it. If you snore or wake up tired, say so: sleep apnea lowers testosterone further. More on sleep and testosterone.

2. Lose the belly fat first

The fat deep around your middle turns testosterone into estradiol and sends signals that slow how much you make. More belly fat means less testosterone, and less testosterone makes it easier to store more. The good news runs the same way: testosterone often rises on its own once that fat comes off. Muscle, a walk after meals, less refined carbohydrate and better sleep are what move it. How testosterone shapes your body after 40.

3. Lift two to three times a week

Strength training tells your body its muscle is still needed, and muscle is what keeps the fat off. It matters most when you are eating less. In a calorie deficit the body gives up muscle before fat, and the men who lose the most muscle are the ones who diet hardest without lifting. Pair it with protein at every meal. Why men lose muscle when they cut.

4. Take stress seriously

Months of high stress keep cortisol up, and cortisol turns down the brain signal that tells your body to make testosterone. A bad week passes. A bad year keeps that signal low, and it shows up as less drive, lighter sleep and workouts that stop paying back. The fix starts upstream: sleep, workload and real time off. How stress reaches your drive.

5. Test it in the morning

Because testosterone peaks early in the day, an afternoon draw can read low on a perfectly normal day. Ask for a morning draw, and ask for free testosterone as well as total, since free is the part your body can actually use. One low number is not a diagnosis either. The Endocrine Society asks for consistently low readings plus symptoms. Why total testosterone is not enough.

What if the habits are not enough?

Then the next step is a panel, not a guess. Low energy and low drive also come from thyroid, iron and blood sugar, so a clinician reads testosterone alongside them before deciding anything. The markers that usually explain low energy.

How Regener8 approaches it

The panel comes first, drawn at any LabCorp, and a board certified clinician goes through it with you on a 30 minute video visit. If a plan is right for you it is built from those numbers, shipped to your door, and retested every six months so it keeps matching where you are.
